The Schiaparelli register

The house's salon on the place Vendome has black velvet walls and gilt mirrors, and its present jewellery is the surrealist kind: gilded brass cast as ears, lips, a hand, a rib, worn as earrings, a necklace, a belt over black velvet. The pack dresses you in a black velvet column gown held to every value from velvet depth to lacquer, with the one gold worn as cast anatomy at the ear and throat and echoed once in the belt.

You stand before black velvet with a gilded ear at each ear and a gilded hand cupped at the throat, rest a hand on a gilt mirror's frame with the cast hand at the belt, and stand at the room's centre at half-length with the velvet room and the mirrors behind you. The light is warm from one side, raking the gilt. The mood is jewellery as a joke told with a straight face.
